At first light a person presses against a mossy trunk while a quadruped robot stalks through the fog behind them.

Scenario MS-001 · In development

First Contact

Four humans. One objective. Multiple autonomous machines. Ninety minutes.

The brief

You go in at last light with three other people, a paper map and one objective: reach extraction.

Somewhere between you and it, autonomous machines are already moving. They search. They listen. They share what they see. Nobody scripted them for your team, and between runs they are tuned against what earlier teams did.

You have ninety minutes, each other, and whatever you notice that they don't.

The run

  1. T−60

    Briefing

Rules, safety, kit and the map. You meet the marshals and the people who supervise the machines.

  2. T+00

    Insertion

Your team enters at the edge of the field. The machines are already inside.

  3. T+??

    Contact

You won't know when. Neither will they.

  4. T+90

    Extraction, or discovery

The run ends when your team reaches extraction, when the machines have found all four of you, or when the clock runs out.

  5. After

    The debrief

You watch your run from the other side: their cameras, their maps, and the moment they almost had you.

Thermal view: a crouching person glows white behind a fallen log while a quadruped robot searches nearby.

Detection, not contact.

A machine finds you when the field system confirms it has detected you and held you in view. No touching, no tagging, nothing fired at anyone.

Found players leave the field and watch the rest of the run live from the control tent, which is its own kind of terrible.

Safety is the design

Not a waiver you sign on the way in.

  • A bounded, mapped, fenced field. Machines are geofenced to it.
  • Speed and force limits on every machine in every scenario.
  • A human supervisor with a hard stop on every machine, for the whole run.
  • Participants carry locator beacons. Marshals know where everyone is.
  • Trained marshals and medical cover on every run.
  • Weather and ground-condition calls made conservatively.
  • No weapons, anywhere, carried by anyone or anything.

MS-001 is being designed around these rules. Details will change before the first run; the principles won't.

What it isn't

Questions we'd ask too

Is this real?

It is being built, and you can't book it yet. This page describes MS-001 as it is being designed.

When is the first run?

There is no date. We'd rather tell you when it's real than count down to something that isn't.

Where?

A large private forest property somewhere cold. We're evaluating sites.

What will it cost?

Pricing isn't set. Early runs will be small, and first access goes to people on the interest register.

Who can take part?

Adults who can move over rough, wet ground for ninety minutes, in the dark and the cold. Specific requirements will come with the rules.

Will the machines touch me?

No. Machines in MS-001 are not designed or permitted to make physical contact. They win by finding you.

What if I discover something about them?

Then it's yours. Genuine human-originated discoveries get validated and credited to the person who made them. Read the principles.

Don't let them find you.
